The unrighteous judge responded out of irritation, but God responds to us because He loves us. Yet, what does faithful prayer look like? Faithful prayer is what God desires, v8b Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?”
Given the context of the previous verses, I think Jesus was to some degree speaking especially to those who would suffer in the End Times. So what does faithful prayer look like? The definition of faith can be found in Hebrews 11:
Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.
And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.
These two sets of verses, the ones found in Luke and those found in Hebrews are so intricately linked. Prayer brings about intimacy with God, as we press into communication with Him, and communion with Him. And faithful prayer looks like such, communication with God founded upon the belief that He exists, and that he rewards those who seek him. Faithful prayer is founded from our view of God – a faithful view is one that holds true to Scripture and His character revealed through it. So important it is then, that we grow in knowledge of Scripture, so that we may grow in our view of God, that our prayers may grow in faith!
